Patient and Family Care

Is there a cost to your service?

We do not charge a service fee for nursing care, however, when a patient has the benefit of a medical aid, we will claim on your behalf for the services rendered to the patient with the permission/ consent from the patient or family.

What is your admission criteria?

Whilst we would love to care for all patients, we specialize in providing care to pre- and terminally chronic patients. Note the following ailments do not form part of our service: stroke, dementia, psychosis & alcohol/ drug withdrawal.

How do I apply for care?

To register to be a patient, simply provide us with your details on the “Accessing care” page and we will contact you.

What is the longest period of In-Patient Care?

We will take care of you in our In-Patient Ward for a maximum period of 14 days. Thereafter our Community Nursing Sisters will attend to any longer term care.

Doing your bit by volunteering

What age do I need to be a volunteer at St Luke’s Combined Hospices?

Whilst we love our kiddies, all our volunteers who work with patients need to be 18 years old or over.

How much time will I need to put aside to volunteer?

Time commitment will vary depending on the specific volunteer activity and your availability. Some volunteers help us occasionally, while others commit to weekly shifts depending or their availability. Let us know and we will fit you in!

Will I need training to be a volunteer?

Whilst passion, commitment and a sharing attitude is high on our list, we offer different levels of orientation and training to equip you with the necessary skills. Please visit our Volunteer page to find out the details.

Do I have to pay for the training?

Some of the volunteer training interventions do have a cost while the orientation, is free. Please visit our Volunteer page to find out the details.

Supporting our cause!

How do I participate in your fundraising competitions and initiatives?

Participate in one of our 4 competitions (yearly R 100 000 draw and monthly Clubs) and stand a chance to win between R 500 and R 100 000. Check out our Donate page for all the details.

What payment options are available?

We will gladly assist you in making the payments via the following options: cash, credit card, direct deposit, cheque or SnapScan.

Can I select my own numbers for any of the competitions?

If your lucky number has not been reserved by another dreamer, you are welcome to select your number. Our tele-fundraising team will assist you with this big decision.

Do I get a tax certificate when purchasing a ticket for the R100 000 draw?

A tax certificate cannot be issued, because you may stand a chance of being a winner, however if you donate funds, you may request a tax certificate.

Can I attend the live R 100 000 draw?

Yes, you are most welcome to attend. Keep an eye out for our mails, Facebook page or our website for details.

Is the R 100 000 draw audited by independent auditors?

Absolutely!

Who draws the actual winning numbers?

Our CEO with the help of our independent auditor.

Do you publicize the details of the winner of the R 100 000 draw?

During the live draw, the winner is announced. And it is always our wish that the winner is with us on the day, we will call you during the event to tell you of your riches. We also publicize the winner’s name via our website page, Facebook, and mailers.

What is the price of an individual light?

There are a number of options available from purchasing individual lights, getting the family involved or even corporate teams can participate. Visit our “Support our work” page for details.

Do I have to purchase a light or can I donate a monetary amount?

We accept any donations of any amount, thank you greatly!

Do I get a tax certificate?

Yes, a tax certificate is issued for any donation made towards the tree of lights. Please let us know that you require a tax certificate and we will sort it out for you. We will need your VAT no and issue an invoice.
