This August, we are proud to celebrate a very special milestone: 46 years of St Luke’s Combined Hospices caring for patients and families across the Western Cape.
For nearly five decades, our teams have walked alongside people during some of life’s most difficult moments, offering comfort, dignity, compassion and support when it is needed most. As we celebrate this birthday month, we also honour the dedicated women of St Luke’s during Women’s Month, the women who lead, care, serve and help keep our hospice family moving forward every day.
In this newsletter, we are deeply moved by the story of Charnell Southgate, a 13-year cancer survivor and St Luke’s patient. Her journey reminds us that hospice care is about so much more than medical support. It is about hope, community, kindness and knowing that no patient or family has to walk their journey alone.
We are also grateful to everyone who supported Pairing in the Valley. Thanks to the generosity of our guests, sponsors, donors and partners, R174 000 was raised, helping us assist 70 vulnerable patients and their families. We also extend our sincere thanks to the City of Cape Town and Executive Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis for the generous R200 000 Mayoral Fund contribution, which will help us continue providing compassionate care across our communities.
Looking ahead, we invite our supporters to join us for Padel 4 Palliative on 15 August at Aura Padel Club, as well as the Curro Century City Golf Day on 25 September. We are also preparing for several special events later in the year, including Tree of Lights, an Open Air Movie Night, a Charity Dinner Auction and our festive Give-a-Little online campaign.
As we celebrate 46 years of care, our birthday wish is simple: to continue the meaningful work of palliative care for the next generation.
Thank you for standing with us, supporting our mission and helping us bring comfort, dignity and hope to those who need it most.
