This September, we are filled with gratitude, pride and renewed purpose as we reflect on another meaningful month at St Luke’s Combined Hospices.
We recently hosted our Annual Public Presentation, bringing together staff, supporters, stakeholders and members of our community to reflect on the year that has passed and look ahead to the work still to come. It was a special opportunity to share the impact of the support we receive and to reaffirm our commitment to providing compassionate, dignified palliative care across Cape Town.
As we celebrate Heritage Month, we are reminded of the rich mix of cultures, stories and backgrounds that make up our St Luke’s family. Our diversity is part of our strength, and our shared commitment to care is what continues to guide us every day.
This month, we are also deeply touched by the heartfelt feedback from Mrs M Dawson, whose words remind us that palliative care is often found in the small, human moments: a safe journey, a warm welcome, shared food, time together and the comfort of knowing someone is present.
Looking ahead, we invite our community to support several upcoming initiatives, including the Open-Air Movie Night at Kirstenbosch Gardens on 12 December 2026, the Tree of Lights on 6 December 2026, and the Shuffling Walking Team’s 5km Family Fun Walk for Cancer Awareness on 1 November 2026. Each event offers a meaningful way to come together, show support and help us continue caring for vulnerable patients and their families.
We are also grateful for the support shown at the Mitchell’s Plain Community Hospice Gala Night and excited to share news of our new charity shops opening in Maitland and Plumstead.
Thank you to every donor, supporter, volunteer, staff member and community partner who continues to stand with us. You are the heartbeat of St Luke’s, and your generosity helps us keep our doors open, our services strong and our hospice filled with hope.
