Before receiving support from St Luke’s Hospice, Cikizwa Feni described feeling depressed, overwhelmed and without peace. Through the care of the team, she slowly began to heal emotionally and found hope again.
Counselling sessions with the social worker helped her cope with her illness and encouraged her to focus on her health, healing and the support around her. The guidance gave her strength and helped rebuild her confidence. Attending Day Hospice every second Friday also lifted her spirit and gave her something positive to look forward to.
Cikizwa is especially grateful to the nurses who taught her how to use morphine correctly. Before receiving this education, she was mostly bedridden and living with significant pain because she was not taking the medication properly. Clear guidance helped her manage her pain more effectively.
During a very difficult period, St Luke’s Hospice also supported her with food parcels, blankets and toiletries. Together, emotional care, pain management and practical assistance brought hope, comfort and dignity back into her life.
